SUMMARY:Approaching Sight-Singing With Dalcroze Eurhythmics
DESCRIPTION:This session focuses on sight-singing practices through the lens of Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Purposeful movement can effectively be added to the choral rehearsal to provide a unique and valuable experience for the singer. The Dalcroze approach used in sight-singing involves singing and stepping pitches through space, thereby showing the intervals in the length of the stride. Singers can be challenged to own the score by manipulating what they hear and see. This includes singing and stepping short melodies, altering meters, singing retrograde and inversion, and internalizing various pitches. The goal is to create a confident singer who sees beyond what is written and can hear and sing a variety of musical possibilities.
